NEW TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS FOR EUROPE – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
From the blog of CTC agent Jennifer Moon
Most people know that in order to travel abroad you need a Passport. In addition to a valid Passport, US citizens and citizens from other select countries will also need to apply to the country they will be visiting. Contrary to prior media articles and reports, this is nota Visa but an application for entry.
The new application process is called the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). Why was ETIAS created? Two primary reasons are (1) Security and (2) Revenue generation. Many countries understand the importance of tourism and the European Union is no different. The revenue generation aspect is to help offset budget cuts and this will be shared with all members of the European Union. The application process will also enhance both internal and external security, which is a positive development for travelers.
Countries where you will need to apply for entry:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City.
The application for entry to any one Country is valid for 3 years or the date your Passport expires, whichever comes first. The entry will allow a 90 day maximum stay in a 180 day period. There will be a small fee, however, travelers 18yrs and under will not have to pay a processing fee. However, all travelers will need to apply for entry regardless of age.
Bottom line: This is not a Visa. It is a revenue generator and an additional layer of security.
